Each of the bands is directed by a guest conductor, usually from a college or university band program.

The All-State Band and Orchestra membership is selected in November by an audition of students from across the state.  The All-State Band and Orchestra rehearse and perform as part of the Oklahoma Music Education Association Conference which is held in Tulsa each year late in January.

LARGE GROUP BAND CONTESTS

In the spring of each school year, the Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activity Association sanctions an event in which concert bands play for judges’ comments and ratings. In April, the high school bands perform at the State level.
